I believe that the fundamentals of Art are very important. When you look at a canvas I've painted, you may see a tree. Through some elaborate mix of composition, lighting, color, shading and rendering, I have convinced your brain that a bunch of colorful shapes and lines on a canvas are meant to represent a tree. The tree isn't actually real, but it's astounding that we can manipulate the brain to see certain things. It's like creating your own Rorschach Test on a regular basis. There may only be a mix of black and gray tones on a paper, but your brain will perceive a portrait. It's a magic trick; creating something out of nothing. The illusion of light through color. The illusion of lines given form. It's the art of creating something out of nothing. Through the fundamentals of representational art, you can create anything your mind desires, and convince other minds to see the same things you did in that creation.
